Full Day only on the "Chucky", as the locals call it. |
Typically we will leave the shop around 7am and return between 7 and 8 pm. These rivers
offer you a great opportunity at latching onto trophy Brown and Rainbow trout on public water. It’s
an experience you’ll not soon forget.
We fish year round on these waters, with some of the largest
trout being caught during the winter months.
Located in Spruce Pine,NC between Asheville and Boone, River’s Edge Outfitters is a full service fly shop and fly fishing guide service uniquely situated near some of the finest trout streams in the Southeast.
The North Toe River flows right behind our fly shop, providing back-door access for those who want to try out a new rod, learn to cast, or fish in one of our delayed harvest catch and release streams.

Local Half Day Wade Trip
Our local wade trips take place on both wild and hatchery supported/delayed harvest trout
streams and rivers here in Western NC. Some the most pristine waters in the country provide
you the opportunity to catch rainbows, browns and wild brook trout. This trip is perfect for
the beginner or someone who can’t spend the whole day on the water.
Our guides are all experienced on these waters and are willing to spend as much time as needed with
fly fishing instruction. Lunch can be requested….fishing license not included.
Local Full Day Wade Trip
Our full day local wade trips take place on wild and hatchery supported/delayed harvest trout streams.
However these trips allow our guide to take you to places that could not be reached with the time
allowed on a half day trip. You will also be able to fish an assortment of great locations if the
conditions allow.
We leave the shop around 8am and will return about 6:30pm. Shore lunch is provided on thes trips,
along with any fishing tackle and equipment you will need. Fishing license is not included. We’ll
let you know what to bring when you call to reserve your trip.
Fish public or private waters
Our “ private Waters” offer guaranteed solitude and the chance to catch
trophy-sized trout (up to 28 inches) in a pristine mountain stream environment. The popular
North Toe River is just minutes away, offering catch-and-release/delayed-harvest regulations
and healthy fish populations from October through June.
If that isn't enough, there are hundreds of miles of coldwater streams within a 30-minute drive
of our shop: the French Broad, the South Holston, the Watauga, the Nolichucky, and the South
Toe River are all just a short drive from the shop; and miles of remote brook trout streams are
located minutes from Historic Downtown Spruce Pine.
Fishing our private waters offers a true trophy fishing experience. Anglers can expect to find fish sipping midges in the slicks, gorging on nymphs in the riffles, and chasing bait fish in long deep holes.
If you have always dreamed of catching a large trout in a unique mountain setting our trophy waters are for you.
These fisheries are not for the faint of heart. Imagine 25 plus inch fish jumping and running through long, still waters…there’s no better place to be. Trout fishing the way it’s supposed to be! Make your reservation today. info@flyshopnc.com
Nolichucky River Fishing
From its origin in North Carolina at the confluence of the Toe and Cane Rivers, the "Chucky",
as the locals call it, comes out of the rugged mountains of Western North Carolina into the quiet
town of Erwin, Tennessee. Our trips begin from here and work their way down river towards Limestone,
Tennessee. From the town of Erwin, the river changes character significantly.
The Chucky goes from being a fast flowing narrow gorge to wider softer flowing water and continues
towards the French Broad River. The Nolichucky offers anglers the ability to encounter trophy
smallmouth, large trout and the occasional musky. Seasons, weather and water levels dictate which
section of the river your trip will be on. The Nolichucky contends with any smallmouth bass river
for its mountain views and excellent fishing.
